Walking in the landscapes of Estrela, Wolfram, Schist and River.
Estrela, Wolfram, Schist and River and the respective parishes are connected by a network of walking paths that use the transhumanist ancestral paths, the charcoal-burners, the saltipilhas, the hunting, mills and terraced fields. They are paths which take us to landscapes and realities which are barely visible from the roads.
There are several paths classified as Long and Small trails that are duly signposted and approved:
GR22 Long trail of Historic Villages
Deservedly of its title, Long Route, because there are over 600km linking the 12 Historic Villages of Portugal along a circular route.
GR33 – Long trail of the Zêzere
This path is connected to the Schist Villages and follows a good part of the Zêzere in the southern area of Estrela.
PR1 FND
Depending on the options this trail can take you to only the prehistoric art existing on rocks on the riverbed or besides these, to the industrial landscapes of Cabeço do Pião.
PR14 CVL – Varanda dos Pastores Trail
A circular route through the highest parts of the Estrela Mountain Range, starting at Penhas da Saúde.
PR15 CVL – Hot Springs Trail
A circular route that uses the old pastoral tracks and paths along the valley of the Alforfa creek, where it is possible to enjoy wide panoramas and also appreciate from close up examples of vernacular architecture (mills, walls and terraces).
PR17 CVL – Bridges Trail
A circular route around the valley of the Cortes stream, that from one side of the shore to the other takes you to a traditional agricultural reality.
